COMMUNITY [+] WELLNESS CENTER - SPRING 2017

Located in Tremont, the site of the Recreation Center was a gravel parking lot with a single tree in the center.  Surrounded by residences, shops, cultural centers, and restaurants, the one thing missing from this part of the neighborhood was a park.

The Community [+] Wellness Center (CWC) focuses on physical as well as social well being.  The CWC is divided into activity zones where people can go to enjoy whatever activity they choose.  Every zone is connected to each other via direct access or sight lines, allowing people to mingle with others with different hobbies.

The green roofs act as the outdoor space that I believe should be part of any community/health center.  One is geared for play while the other is more laid back.  Everyone can enjoy the roofs, covered with sod, regardless of age, gender, or even species!

One of my main focuses was how to create a building that fit in with the historic neighborhood while also accommodating the vast number of different people who would use it.  I believe the CWC can become an integral part of the community, bringing everyone closer together.
